Another Transgender Clinic Closing After Trump EO Pulls Federal Dollars

On Thursday, one of the largest youth transgender clinics in the nation announced it would be closing its doors. The final day of operation for The Center for Transyouth Health and Development (CTYHD) will be July 22. The Center, which is a provider of gender-related procedures like puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries for thousands of patients in the region, is closing in part due to what hospital officials cited as “increasingly severe impacts of federal administrative actions and proposed policies.” In an email to employees, hospital executives stated, “There is no doubt that this is a painful and significant change to our organization and a challenge to CHLA’s mission, vision, and values.”

Back in January, shortly after taking office, Trump signed an executive order that eliminated any federal funding for transgender chemical or surgical procedures. It also threatened legal repercussions for any institutions that supported those practices. Attorney General Pam Bondi has also recently instructed prosecutors to investigate any doctors who are still performing or attempting to perform any of these procedures. Her memo read in part,

“Parents have been betrayed by politically captured profiteers at every step. These ‘professionals’ have deployed junk science and false claims about the effects of so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ to justify the barbaric practice of surgically and chemically maiming and sterilizing children.”

The closing of CTYHD is significant because it is one of the very few institutions of its kind that accepts public insurance. It is more dependent on public insurance than any other pediatric hospital in California. An ominous statement from the Clinic read in part,

“These threats are no longer theoretical. Taken together, the Attorney General memo, [Department of Health and Human Services] review, and the recent solicitation of tips from the FBI to report hospitals and providers of [gender affirming care] strongly signal this Administration’s intent to take swift and decisive action, both criminal and civil, against any entity it views as being in violation of the executive order.”

California has been a front-and-center battleground on the issue of gender-affirming care for minors. The Department of Education launched an investigation after California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a 2024 law that prohibited schools from enacting any policies that would require teachers and administrators to tell parents if their child asks to change their name or pronouns, use opposite-sex restrooms, or play on opposite-sex sports teams. The California court system has also been of no help to parents who oppose the transitioning of their children. In November of 2024, a Judge granted permission for Jeff Younger’s ex-wife to allow the chemical castration of their 12-year-old son.

CTYHD may just be the latest such facility to close its doors. Back in 2024, the Washington University School of Medicine Pediatric Gender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital quietly shut its doors. It became the subject of an investigation in 2023, after a whistleblower exposed what she called “morally and medically appalling practices.”

The Trump executive order may bring the U.S. more in line with recent restrictions on gender practices in Europe. The National Health Service (NHS) in Great Britain began restricting gender procedures last April. In December of 2023, Norway began labeling youth gender procedures as “treatment under trial,” and in 2020, Finland began restricting gender care for minors.

A parent associated with CTYHD stated,

“We’re slowly going underground, underground, underground. You put one thing in place, and then you have to prepare for when that gets taken away. We’re just trying to stay a couple of steps ahead, sticking together with other parents, knowing who our allies are.”

However, Jeff Younger had this to say about the closing of the Clinic,

“The California judge that allowed my ex-wife to chemically castrate my son is Mark Juhas. With I told him in court that I would shut down the LA Children’s Hospital gender clinic, he laughed. So did opposing counsel and my ex-wife. Who’s laughing now, b**ch?”
