In a move that sent leftist spittle flying everywhere, the Des Moines Catholic Diocese recently laid out a series of “gender identity” policies that take a hammer to woke nonsense like preferred pronouns, puberty blockers, and cross-dressing. The “binding” rules apply across the diocese, which has 80 parishes, 17 schools, and over 100,000 members, and is overseen by Bishop William Joensen.
The new policies are the result of the many questions put to Bishop Joensen about how Catholics should respond to the radical transgender agenda being pushed on families on a daily basis. It took “two years of study, prayer, listening, and consulting” to develop a policy “that provides a comprehensive explanation of how to interpret and apply Catholic principles to daily life within our faith communities and schools.”
Among the guidance put forth: “Respect for creation includes respect for one’s biological sex”; “The human person is a body-soul union, and the body — as created male or female — is an essential aspect of the human person.”; and, “The mystery of human sexuality as a key component of personal identity is received as a gift created by God that we are not authorized to seek to change.” In addition, the first rule states that “no person may designate a ‘preferred pronoun’ in speech or in writing when related to ministry activities of any kind,” including diocesan schools.
This kind of clear-headed, sane approach is needed in communities across the country that are continuously under attack from a lobby that demands respect for their so-called “values” while failing to offer any in return. The trans lobby is heavy-handed, crude, and utterly lacking in morals, yet the Des Moines Catholic Diocese encouraged its members to “be welcoming and accompany families and individuals experiencing gender dysphoria with compassion and courage, patiently supporting them in their life journey.” This is called grace.
Grace, however, was not bestowed on the diocese from leftists who, predictably, reacted with rage that their agenda was so firmly and decisively rejected. One lawmaker from Iowa, Democrat State Senator Claire Celsi, was apoplectic and took to Facebook with her anger, claiming:
“This is not what Jesus would do.”
You have to love it when the left, who are loud and proud in their love of abortion, claim to have any clue what Jesus would do. Actually, if they bothered to pick up The Bible every once in a while, they’d know exactly what Jesus would do and it ain’t anywhere close to the extremism that the Claire Celsis of the world live out every day.
Another amoral leftist by the name of Courtney Reyes, who is executive director of an LGBTQ+ group by the name of One Iowa, was also incensed, stating:
“You cannot pretend to be compassionate while misgendering people and denying them access to any and all spaces under your control.”
Again, the left tries and fails to take the moral high ground. You can’t advocate for the slaughter of unborn babies in one breath while demanding respect for your radical gender nonsense in the next and expect rational, moral people to take you seriously. The new rules being enforced by the Des Moines Catholic Diocese are a win for those who advocate for a strict, yet loving, response to gender identity issues; these rules respect the humanity of the person suffering from these issues, while also encouraging them to stay true to Catholic doctrine. Leftists could learn a lot from the Church if they ever bothered to turn off their anger and just listen.
Joe Biden, the world’s most devoted Catholic, was unavailable for comment.
