Cryin’ Adam Kinzinger is at it again. After former President Donald Trump was convicted, Democrats and their anti-Trump Republican comrades have been making the rounds, trying desperately to convince the nation that the politically motivated prosecution effort has nothing to do with politics. In essence, they are begging the public to ignore what their eyes and ears are telling them.

During a recent appearance on CNN, the former Illinois representative said he was “very disappointed” in House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for speaking out against the verdict in the Manhattan trial.

After the verdict was announced, Johnson, along with other Republicans, issued a scathing rebuke against the decision.

Johnson also said the verdict “will probably guarantee” that Trump wins reelection in November, which seemed to rankle Kinzinger’s feathers.

The former congressman said, “As a person of faith myself, I’m very disappointed to see a person of faith … especially in such a powerful position, lie about this.” He said he doesn’t think “there is a single person that was committed to Joe Biden that, because of these felonies, has now said ‘I’m going to vote for Donald Trump.’”

Kinzinger added: “It may please 30 percent of the most hardcore Trump base, but the rest of America is going ‘Wow, this is weird.’”

Kinzinger attributed that narrative to social media, paired with what he called “mass psychosis,” and argued that many people, including Republicans, are “uncomfortable voting for a convicted felon.”

Of course, Kinzinger is right that Biden supporters aren’t going to change their minds because of the Manhattan verdict. However, nobody is making that argument in the first place. What people who aren’t Cryin’ Adam Kinzinger can see is that those who were on the fence — or perhaps leaning toward Trump — might just take the plunge and vote for him because they see how devious the Democrats have become in using the government to target a political opponent.

What Kinzinger and his ilk don’t want to confront is that, regardless of their criticisms of the former president, the Democrats are clearly trying to leverage the state to influence the outcome of the presidential election. No matter what Kinzinger hopes, this is likely to turn off a significant number of voters.
