As RedState reported Tuesday, Meta Platforms (fka Facebook Inc.) CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent the mainstream media and the fact-checking industry into an absolute tailspin with his announcement that they were “going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with Community Notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.”

Other Meta officials also weighed in, and rationalized the abrupt shift by citing what they accurately described as rampant political bias among fact-checking organizations.

“It has become clear there is too much political bias in what they choose to fact-check,” Meta chief global affairs officer Joel Kaplan said of the third-party fact-checkers, per Fox News Digital.

Though the reactions from various fact-checking groups were pretty predictable, it was the one from CNN media hall monitor Brian Stelter that was perhaps most revealing of all:

Big picture: Mark Zuckerberg just announced sweeping changes to the social internet, all in line with the desires of President Trump and Trump voters.

Out with the fact-checkers that conservatives deride. In with more permissive rules for posting conservative opinions.

I mean, how absolutely horrifying, right? The free flow of conservative opinions on social media as opposed to the lopsided political biases from “fact checkers’ we’ve seen for years on these platforms and which almost universally impact conservatives the hardest is apparently too bitter a pill for the pro-censorship Stelter to swallow:

Some were a little more blunt in their assessment of Stelter’s .02:

Relatedly, there was Stelter’s suggestion of an “alternate title” for Meta’s blog post on the subject, a suggestion which as others pointed out in so many words displayed a staggering lack of self-awareness considering current events at the struggling “news” network:

My general rule of thumb on these matters is to watch how the left/media respond to announcements of this type of nature. If they’re reaching for the smelling salts and diving for the fainting couches, then more likely than not I’m going to be on board with the announcement.

The good news here is that Zuckerberg, for whatever reason, has finally decided to settle on the correct decision when it comes to free expression and the flow of ideas. The bad news is that outlets like CNN are likely going to ramp up their fact-checking arms to try and fill what they see as the void in fact-checking, which is going to result in some pretty comical yet insulting write-ups from their resident “fact checkers” like Daniel Dale and the WaPo’s Glenn Kessler.

That’s okay, though, because when they go off the rails, we’ll be right here to call them out and hold them to account for it in the court of public opinion – complete with all the necessary receipts.

I can’t wait.
