It is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. As the Democrat Party continues its freefall, it is being said even more. Since their thumping by President Donald Trump and Republicans in November, Democrats have refused to do any self-evaluation or reflection. They continue to ignore the resounding statement the American people made on election day and beyond. Now, there is more proof that doing the same things and insanity will reign supreme for the foreseeable future.
On Thursday, Axios reported that Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) plans to file articles of impeachment against three high-level national security officials involved in the recent Signal chat leaks. Omar’s targets are Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe. The potential impeachments come after the accidental inclusion of The Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg on a group chat where details of attacks on Houthi rebels in Yemen were being discussed.
Democrats are desperate to turn the incident into a scandal, and Omar is shopping the idea of impeachments to her fellow Democrats in the House. Those who were on the chat, including Hegseth and Waltz, have denied any specific war plans were discussed, and ultimately, the mission was a success. But success for the Trump administration is bad for Democrats. Since the revelation of the chat leak, Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY), have called for the resignation of Hegseth, and others have accused Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard of lying to a Senate Intelligence Committee, saying they did not believe there was classified information contained within the chat.
Rep. Omar’s articles of impeachment have about as much chance of seeing the light of day as those of cane-waver Rep. Al Green’s (D-TX) do. Even though it is a narrow one, Republicans hold a thin majority in the House, and the threshold of the 67 votes that would be needed in the Republican-controlled Senate would also be next to impossible.
It is unclear if Omar has convinced any other Democrats to sign onto articles of impeachment. But after you look past the simple annoyance it amounts to, the fact that Democrats cling with their bony fingers to the very ideas and strategies that turned off voters and elected Donald Trump is truly stunning. Endless impeachments, indictments, and lawfare against Trump, as well as failed policies and ideas like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), men playing in women’s sports, and open borders, are the very things that got Trump elected.
And as if resurrecting the possibility, albeit remote, of impeachments wasn’t incredible enough, my colleague Nick Arama has chronicled still more buffoonery from failed VP candidate Tim Walz, who is looking a lot like a 2028 presidential candidate (we can only hope). Walz was in Texas attempting to rally the faithful and offering up ideas about why Democrats lost so badly in 2024. Walz actually had this bold idea on how Democrats can “fix” things in 2028, saying, “We got ourselves into this mess because we did NOT embrace immigrants, wokeness, and DEI.”
Walz wasn’t done. This bit of genius, if implemented, would surely turn the fortunes of the Democrat Party. Walz continued, saying,
“I think we need a shadow government so when all these things come up, every single day, we have an alternate press conference telling the truth about what things are happening.”
There are a lot of pundits and talking heads who will say that the slow implosion of the Democrat Party is bad for America, we need a strong two-party system. But there is another saying that should be repeated about Democrats besides the definition of insanity. “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”
