On Monday morning, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.), tested positive for COVID-19.
“I tested positive for COVID-19 this morning,” Manchin tweeted. “I am fully vaccinated. I have been boosted. I’m experiencing mild symptoms.”
“I will follow CDC guidelines and isolate the problem as I continue my remote work to help West Virginians.”
According to NBC News, even though the Senate will be heading off for August recess within two weeks, Manchin’s absence could make it difficult to advance items that Democrats wanted to push prior to then. Manchin is a centrist senator, so his vote can sometimes make or break bills.

Fox News reporter Chad Pergram reported that 14 members of Congress have tested positive for the virus within the last 16 days.
With positive test by Manchin, that means 173 mbrs of 117th Congress have tested positive. 123 mbrs this year. 14 mbrs in past 16 days

Although the Senate is split 50-50, it is still dominated by Democrats due to tie-breaker Vice President Kamala Harris.
As previously reported, President Joe Biden has a mild case of COVID-19 and is continuing to perform his duties as president, in isolation.
