According to two lawsuits, 28 female inmates in an Indiana jail are suing the Clark County jail guard who sold their keys to male inmates. This led to a “night of terror.”
According to the suits, at least 12 women were raped and harassed. A guard, David Lowe (29), sold their keys to male inmates for $1,000.
To hide their identities from cameras, male inmates were alleged to have worn towels over their heads as they entered the female prisoner section.
According to one lawsuit, “The men repeatedly threatened sexually assaulting the women.” Male inmates threatened women with sexual assault if they shouted for help. Two women reported being raped.
According to the suits, no guard arrived to assist the women. Some women suffered injuries such as bleeding, vaginal tears, and genital herpes.
Surprisingly, the guards placed the women in lockdown after the attack and left the jail lights on for 72 hours. According to court records, they also took “authorized personal property” from the women, including pillows, blankets, and personal hygiene products, without any legitimate security reason.
David Lowe, Jail Guard, was fired and charged with trafficking, felony misconduct, and aiding escape. The suits also name Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, who is accused of failing to train guards properly.
Lawyers for the women stated that “these systemic failures allowed many male assailants free reign of the jail for several hours, resulting in an evening of terror for Plaintiffs and other victims.”
