7 Shot During West Indian Day Parade in Gun-Controlled NYC

At least seven people were shot after gunfire rang out three separate times Monday evening during the West Indian Day Parade in New York City.

The first of the shootings occurred “along the parade route on Eastern Parkway at about 5:35 p.m.,” leaving a man and a woman wounded, the New York Post reported.

Two other individuals were shot on Eastern Parkway about 6:30 p.m.

NBC New York noted that two more people were shot–both in their shoulders–around 6:45 p.m., and a 14-year-old boy was shot and wounded some time after that.

Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety ranks New York the number four state in the Union for gun control stringency.

New York gun controls include a red flag law, a concealed carry permit requirement, gun storage laws, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, a universal background check requirement for handgun purchases, a ban on bump stocks, a ban on “Glock switches,” and regulations on “ghost guns.”

Kristi Noem’s Labor Day Message: Jobs Are Going Back to American Citizens, Not Foreigners

0

Jobs are going back to American citizens — not foreigners — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on Monday in her pointed Labor Day message.

“This Labor Day, America works for Americans again,” Noem said, noting that all new jobs gains have gone to U.S. citizens. Further, she pointed out that 2.5 million Americans are “back at work since January.”

“In comparison, 88% of jobs created during the same period under Biden went to foreign-born workers,” she explained.

“Meanwhile DHS reforms have saved taxpayers over $13.2 billion,” she continued. “President Trump and I are putting the American worker FIRST. Happy Labor Day!”

Indeed, Americans have witnessed quite the transformation in the last year, as the American economy has transitioned from former President Joe Biden’s economy built on migrant labor to President Donald Trump’s vision of prioritizing the American worker. As such, employment among native born Americans has exploded, as Breitbart News thoroughly documented:

Continuing the trend in July, Trump oversaw all net job growth going to native-born Americans while hundreds of thousands of foreign-born workers drop out of the labor market each month — opening many entry-level jobs for America’s working and lower-middle class.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) told the same story, with all job gains going to native-born Americans rather than foreign workers.

“The July jobs report shows that as illegal aliens continue to exit the labor force, more Americans are finding steady and gainful employment,” DHS’s Tricia McLaughlin said. “President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership is making America both safe and prosperous again.”

In all, an estimated 1.6 million illegal immigrants are said to have left the country this year, and preliminary Census Bureau data shows that over 1.2 million immigrants in general — both illegal and legal — have disappeared from the U.S. labor force in January through July of this year.

Kari Lake Announces Huge Reduction in Force at US Agency for Global Media

Just one day after U.S Senior District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth ruled against the removal of Voice of America Director Michael Abramowitz from his role, U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) Acting Chief Executive Kari Lake took to X and announced a widespread Reduction of Force (RIF), eliminating the positions of 532 USAGM employees. Lake’s announcement is a striking rejection of the U.S. District Court’s authority to intervene in the functions of the Executive branch.

Judge Lambert ruled against the termination of Abramowitz on Thursday, as reported by NPR, after making a broad pronouncement Monday that Lake’s ongoing efforts to right-size the agency within its statutory limits are “verging on contempt of court.” The judge openly dismissed constitutional arguments that he is overstepping the judicial branch’s authority, writing in part:

“Defendants raise just one defense as to why the Court should decline to issue an injunction: they call upon the Court to declare that [law] violates the separation of powers by unduly interfering with the President’s authority to remove inferior officers…. Because Supreme Court precedent on the president’s removal power directly contradicts their position, the Court cannot do so.”

Lake released an announcement of the RIF on Friday and posted it to X:

Lake’s tweet continues:

Tonight, the U.S. Agency for Global Media initiated what is known as a reduction in force, or RIF, of a large number of its full-time federal employees. We are conducting this RIF at the President’s direction to help reduce the federal bureaucracy, improve agency service, and save the American people more of their hard-earned money. USAGM will continue to fulfill its statutory mission after this RIF— and will likely improve its ability to function and provide the truth to people across the world who live under murderous Communist governments and other tyrannical regimes. I look forward to taking additional steps in the coming months to improve the functioning of a very broken agency and make sure America’s voice is heard abroad where it matters most.

Lake responded to a request for comment from RedState Saturday, blasting Judge Lambert’s interference in Executive Branch operations, explaining, “The D.C. District Court getting involved in Executive Branch personnel issues is unconstitutional. It’s happening with many agencies as President Trump tries to make personnel changes to get the right people in the right jobs.”

Addressing the removal of Abramowitz in particular, she wrote, “In my agency, we did not fire Mr. Abramowitz; we reassigned him to an incredible position, and he chose not to take that reassignment.”

“We fully intend to appeal this absurd ruling,” she added.

“Elections have consequences, and President Trump runs the Executive Branch. I have confidence that the Constitution will eventually be enforced, even if not by Judge Lamberth and other radical district judges,” Lake said.

Solicitor General of the United States D. John Sauer announced in a letter reported by AZ Free News that under the authority of Article II § 2 Clause 2, the restrictions imposed on personnel decisions at USAGM by 22 U.S.C. 6205(e)(l) are unconstitutional, and the DOJ is prepared to defend the removal of Abramowitz.

“The head of Voice of America, an inferior executive officer, is appointed by the Chief Executive Officer of the United States Agency for Global Media. See 22 U.S.C. 6205(e)(l),” he wrote. “A federal statute provides that the Chief Executive Officer may remove the head of Voice of America only with the approval of the Independent Broadcasting Advisory Board.”

Sauer explained:

“Under Article II, inferior executive officers must be removable at will by the President or by a department head acting on the President’s behalf. See Seila Law LLC v. CFPB, 591 U.S. 197, 215 (2020).

“The Supreme Court has recognized only one narrow exception to that ‘general rule.’ Ibid. That exception extends, at most, to certain domestic inferior officers ‘with limited duties and no policymaking or administrative authority.’ Id. at 218. The head of Voice of America falls outside that exception. Among other things, he exercises significant policymaking or administrative authority in supervising Voice of America, and Voice of America’s activities implicate the President’s authority to manage foreign affairs.”

Report: Andy Ngo, New York Post Give a Different View of Mother of Annunciation Catholic School Killer

0
AP Photo/Bruce Kluckhohn

Mary Grace Westman, the mother of Annunciation Catholic School killer Robert “Robin” Westman has been vilified on social media and in some press reports. As RedState reported, Westman, a transgender, killed two children and injured 17 others during a Wednesday morning mass at the Minneapolis Catholic school. Among Robin Westman’s bitter rantings was his regret over his gender transition, which was legally approved by both his parents — the father James Allen, and the mother Mary Grace. Yet, much of the blame and anger over Robin Westman’s heinous act (including by the shooter himself) has been placed in the lap of Mary Grace Westman.

To be fair, Mary Grace Westman has neither condemned nor defended her troubled son or his actions. She has been radio silent. According to social media reports, her condominium in Naples, Florida, was searched by the FBI, as she rushed back to Minneapolis to be with her family after the Westman’s son committed the murders. Initial reports indicated she would not speak with law enforcement, and later reports further indicated that she had acquired legal counsel.

Fox News learned the shooter’s mother, Mary Grace Westman, has retained criminal defense attorney Ryan Garry.

When asked why the mother obtained a criminal attorney, Garry told Fox, “She is completely distraught about the situation and has no culpability but is seeking an attorney to deal with calls like this.”

FBI Head Patel Updates About the ‘Barbaric Attack’ by Transgender Killer in MN Shooting

But according to reporting by investigative journalist Andy Ngo, Mary Grace’s decision to sign the papers to allow her child to transition was made under duress. From Robin Westman’s manifesto and writings, Mary Grace did not support his transition and told him he would regret it. After she signed the forms, Mary Grace Westman chose not to share this with the rest of her family. Ngo writes:

“[Robert] was the youngest of five children and experienced a difficult divorce between his parents,” the source says. “Shortly after she signed the form for Bobby, she moved to Florida after he turned 18. She was heartbroken over all of this … She moved away from all of us. ”

The source added: “Mary Grace did not share with us that she signed the [identity change] paper for Bobby. She probably would not have been able to face us. But we would all still have loved and accepted her decision, knowing that her back was against the wall.”

Ngo also noted that it is not unusual for people involved in a criminal investigation to obtain legal counsel. It is a matter of protection. But this has not stopped people from accusing Mary Grace Westman of the worst of mothering and evil equal to her child’s act.

However, Ngo strives to demonstrate that there appeared to be a “values misalignment” between Mary Grace and James Allen. Mary Grace was a traditionalist and a devout Catholic. James Allen Westman was neither conservative nor religious. These divided ideals and moral focus may have been what led to their divorce in 2013, when Robert Westman was only 10. A divorce, as mentioned by Ngo’s source above, which was fraught with difficulty. Mary Grace Westman worked at Annunciation Catholic Church as parish secretary for five years before she retired, and received glowing praise from her superiors at the church.

She has provided such wonderful hospitality, friendship and compassion to all who gathered for the last five years at Annunciation. You will be missed!

This belies the image of an AWFL or transgender zealot. According to reports, Mary Grace Westman grew up in a devout Catholic family, and her leanings did not appear to change. Despite the transgender community’s entreaties to change their stance, Catholic doctrine does not recognize so-called gender affirming care.

In light of growing numbers around the world, the topic of transgenderism is receiving more and more attention from politicians, psychologists and the media. The Catholic Church has also spoken out with its document Dignitas Infinita, where the Vatican clearly rejects gender reassignment.

“Regarding gender reassignment, the document reflects on the importance of accepting reality as it is. The subject is important to be seen as a whole because today, there is a tendency to want to create reality,” said Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Several experts agree. They warn that sex change is permanent and young people, in particular, should not be allowed to make this irreversible decision.

Ngo continued:

The shooter himself admitted in his manifesto that his mother was not supportive of his transition, and he resented her for it.

“I remember one day, she said something like, ‘In the future you will look back and feel ridiculous about who you feel like you are inside. You will regret this,’” the shooter wrote in his manifesto. He also confessed that he had come to realize he’d been “brainwashed” into becoming trans

On Friday, The New York Post also shed some light on Mary Grace Westman’s background, through the child Westman gave up for adoption when she was young, but reunited with many years later.

The mother of transgender Minneapolis mass shooter Robin Westman once appeared in a movie made by her daughter — who she gave up for adoption as a child, a report revealed.

Mary Grace Westman, 67, starred in the short film “Mary Meets Grace,” written and directed by her biological daughter, Faryl Amadeus, 44, who was adopted as a child from Kentucky, the Daily Mail reported.

That 2021 short film, which appeared in several festivals, was a fictionalized retelling of Amadeus’ real-life reunion with her biological mom, played by Mary Grace herself.

“My birth mother, who appears in the film, found me in 2005 and we later reunited with my bio dad in 2012,” Amadeus told Nerd Daily in 2021. “The emotional mystery of adoption could fuel countless stories.”

“My birth mom was so generous with this project. She lent me photographs of herself, she flew during the pandemic to film. We have a very special connection. And it is different from being my mom, which I have,” the filmmaker expounded.

Faryl Amadeus even traveled to Minneapolis to meet her half-siblings, which included then-three-year-old Robert Westman. According to the report, Amadeus was not mentioned in Robin Westman’s manifesto.

Dive Deeper‘Gender Center’ Whistleblower Tears Apart Affirmative Narrative After MN Shooting

First, it is noteworthy that so much focus has been on the mother, Mary Grace Westman, and what she allowed her child to do, but little to no scrutiny or focus has been placed on the father, James Allen Westman, and his role in parenting Robert Westman

The father’s role in helping his offspring develop a sense of their sexual identity has been recognized for some time. More than 20 years ago, Maccoby and Jacklin (1974) examined the ways that fathers and men in general differentiate or shape children’s sexual identity to conform with societal norms regarding gender-role expectations. They describe men’s language, vocabulary, and physical handling styles that together serve to render sons “masculine” and daughters “feminine.” Differences in nurturing that have to do with role and differences that are related to gender are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to tease apart.

As more facts are revealed about Robert “Robin” Westman’s tragic actions against innocent children, the fact that one parent is demonized based on scant evidence, while the other parent is ignored or dismissed, not only comes off lopsided, but reflects society’s warped view on the role of fathers in shaping their children. As in many matters concerning children, a balanced perspective is required.

Russia Suspected of Jamming GPS of Plane Carrying EU Chief Von Der Leyen

BRUSSELS (AP) – A plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was hit by radar jamming over Bulgaria in a suspected Russian operation, a spokesperson said Monday.

The plane landed safely in Plovdiv airport and von der Leyen will continue her planned tour of the European Union´s nations bordering Russia and Belarus, said the commission’s spokesperson Arianna Podestà.

“We can indeed confirm that there was GPS jamming,” said Podestà. “We have received information from the Bulgarian authority that they suspect that this was due to blatant interference by Russia.”

Von der Leyen, a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow’s war in Ukraine, is on a four-day tour of the EU nations bordering Russia and its ally Belarus.

“This incident actually underlines the urgency of the mission that the president is carrying out in the front-line member states,” Podestà said.

She said that von der Leyen has seen “firsthand the everyday challenges of threats coming from Russia and its proxies.”

“And, of course, the EU will continue to invest into defense spending and in Europe’s readiness even more after this incident,” she said.

Bulgaria issued a statement saying that “the satellite signal used for the aircraft’s GPS navigation was disrupted. As the aircraft approached Plovdiv Airport, the GPS signal was lost.”

DHS Comes Tweets a Blazin’ for CNN Over Their Hero Worship of Illegal Alien Criminals

Most people were probably taking it easy on their Labor Day weekend Saturday night, but not the Department of Homeland Security. Instead of basking by the pool with margaritas, they were busy blasting CNN for their slanted coverage of the Trump administration’s efforts to repatriate immigrants in this country illegally and return safety to our cities’ streets.

You’re no more than a “disgraceful propaganda arm,” DHS told the ratings-challenged, truth-allergic outlet:

As you can see, the CNN headline that DHS refers to reads, “A volunteer firefighter, a beloved pastor, a prominent journalist: These are the community pillars being detained by ICE.” It was from a story posted on Saturday, August 30.

“These headlines directly contribute to the 1000% increase in assaults against our brave @ICEgov law enforcement,” DHS wrote.

The Department of Homeland Security vs. the Media: It Is No Contest Who Is Winning the Messaging Battle

Let’s look into these heroic “community pillars” that CNN lauds. There’s this guy, who CNN describes as “known to many in Port Chester, New York, as a family man who made a living as a marble installer and a volunteer with the local fire department,” and who, according to them, had his life “ripped away” by ICE.

He might be a family man, but he would seem to be a very drunk, illegal family man:

And then there’s this brave reporter, Mario Guevara, who, according to the “Most Trusted Name in News,” has “spent the last 20 years covering law enforcement and immigration in the metro Atlanta area.” Could there maybe be more to the story? Oh yeah:

Following his arrest by local authorities, ICE placed a detainer on him. Following his release, he was turned over to ICE custody and has been placed in removal proceedings.  This El Salvador national is in ICE custody because he entered the country illegally in 2004.

One more for the road: “Daniel Fuentes Espinal came to the US from Honduras in 2001 to flee poverty and violence” and has become a “spiritual leader” in his community. Yet he also couldn’t be bothered for TWENTY YEARS to lift a finger to try and legalize his status. Try that in Mexico or virtually any other country on the globe and find out what happens to you.

He overstayed his visa by more than TWENTY years.

We’ve known for years just how corrupt the mainstream media has become, but it’s still astonishing to see the lengths they’ll go to glorify people who break the law, vilify any efforts to bring safety back to our streets, or encourage hate and distrust against the very institutions that are trying to clean up the mess made by failed progressive policies.

DHS wasn’t having it Saturday.

Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.

Trump EO Could Help Solve Las Vegas’ Devastating Homeless Crisis

0
AP Photo/John Locher

Like so many of our major cities, especially in warmer climes, Las Vegas is struggling with ever-more-expansive homeless encampments. Much as some on the left like to paint homeless people as just poor folks down on their luck, probably because of oppression by nasty capitalists, these encampments are crime-ridden cesspools. Many of the inhabitants have mental health issues, as well as alcohol and drug problems.

And again, like so many of our major cities, Las Vegas and Clark County seem unable to address the problem, and residents are growing increasingly frustrated. But a Trump executive order may provide an answer.

An executive order signed by President Donald Trump is aiming to combat crime involving homelessness throughout the country, with cities such as Las Vegas seeing a crisis surrounding encampments overtaking communities and crippling the local area.

Sin City has seen an uptick in homelessness throughout the community, with a 20% increase within Clark County in 2024, according to the most recent data from the Southern Nevada Homeless Continuum of Care.

“It’s progressively gotten worse and worse and worse,” Robert Marbut, the former federal homelessness czar under Trump’s first administration, told Fox News Digital. “And there was sort of an idea that they tried a lot of gimmicks in the beginning.”

Las Vegas residents, who do have homes, are increasingly frustrated. The encampments are encroaching on their neighborhoods. We should also note that this is not just a crime problem. It’s a public health problem. It’s a sanitation problem. These encampments are trash-strewn eyesores, often open-air drug markets, inhabited by addicts and criminals. It’s no wonder the taxpayers in Vegas are unhappy.

The issue has been exacerbated in recent weeks, with a local neighborhood on edge after a previously removed homeless encampment located in an empty parking lot across the street reportedly returned within days.

“Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas,” a neighbor living at Casa Bonita Apartments said, according to KLAS. “We are filled with trash, garbage and homeless people sleeping in the streets. We’re so fabulous. Honestly, it wouldn’t hurt the state to fix this problem.”

“There was a dumpster fire at 3 a.m,” Briana Talbot, property manager for Casa Bonita Apartments, told the outlet. “Someone was walking through the parking lot, lit something on fire in the trash and the whole dumpster caught on fire.”

Here’s the possible answer: Civil commitment. As in, involuntary commitment to an institution designed to get addicts clean, sober, and if not productive, at least self-sufficient. A recent executive order from the Trump administration may hold the key. The first paragraph of the administration’s fact sheet states:

The Order directs the Attorney General to reverse judicial precedents and end consent decrees that limit State and local governments’ ability to commit individuals on the streets who are a risk to themselves or others.

It’s unclear how fast this can happen. There are a lot of precedents to be overturned. But civil commitment may be the only real answer here.

The Legacy of Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom—the Miserable Death of Downtown Los Angeles

Too many of these people are caught up in the revolving door of urban homeless policies. They may enter a shelter for a few days or a few weeks. But the underlying causes aren’t addressed. The mental health problems are too often neglected. The addiction problems, likewise.

This isn’t a problem that can be solved by setting up treatment and quietly waiting for the homeless to decide to enroll. These encampments and the people in them present a serious threat to public health and order. They are detrimental to property values. The people in them, in many cases, show little inclination to give up their vagrant lifestyle. Civil commitment is the only likely answer; get them off the streets, into treatment, involuntarily if we must. Get them cleaned up, dry and sober, and if not productive, at least self-sufficient. The worst cases, and some will be irredeemable, may have to be permanently committed.

We are not living in the early 1960s. These institutions are not a remake of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” But the homelessness problems in our cities seem to grow worse by the day. This may be the only way to permanently address these issues.

It is the primary role of the government to protect the liberty and property of the citizens. In this, too many of our cities are failing, through their utter inability to deal with this issue and many others. It can’t continue. And here’s an interesting news item: In Las Vegas, the problem may be worse than anyone suspects; there is a significant underground population. Watch:

Texas Makes Human Trafficking a First-Degree Felony

Office of Texas Governor and Getty Images

Effective September 1, those engaged in human trafficking in Texas will face up to 99 years in prison if convicted. Earlier this month, Governor Greg Abbott signed HB 2306 and SB 1212 into law, making human trafficking a first-degree felony and denying parole to those convicted in some circumstances.

“I thank all the survivors of human trafficking for stepping up and telling their stories, sharing their insight, and talking about what needs to be done to help their lives,” said Governor Abbott during a signing ceremony on the steps of the Governor’s Mansion. “We want to ensure that we do all we can so that human traffickers never walk the streets of Texas again.”

Senate Bill 1212 amended the state’s human trafficking laws, increasing the penalty range from a second-degree felony with a punishment range of two to 20 years to a first-degree felony with a punishment of up to 99 years in prison.

House Bill 2306 amends the law, denying parole to those convicted of human trafficking of children and the disabled. This measure “ensures that those traffickers will serve every single day of their prison sentence behind bars, no parole for the worst of the worst,” Abbott emphasized.

“The Governor was joined by First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Senators Joan Huffman and Tan Parker; Representatives Daniel Alders, David Cook, Paul Dyson, Helen Kerwin, Marc LaHood, Terri Leo-Wilson, John Lujan, Shelly Luther, Joanne Schofner, and Denise Villalobos; and anti-human trafficking advocates,” the governor’s office reported.

Jacquelyn Aluotto, co-founder of No Trafficking Zone told Fox 26 Houston, “First it was school zones, then foster care and juvenile detentions, universities, community centers, and she called me this legislative session and told me ‘it’s time to make all of Texas a no-trafficking zone.’”

Pam Bondi Fires DOJ Paralegal for Flipping Off, Cursing at National Guard in DC

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday that she terminated a Department of Justice paralegal after multiple incidents of inappropriate conduct toward National Guard service members stationed in Washington, DC.

Bondi stated that she had removed Elizabeth Baxter, a paralegal specialist in the DOJ’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, following an internal investigation into repeated actions directed at National Guard personnel.

According to Bondi, Baxter first admitted on August 18 to a DOJ security guard that she had made an obscene gesture toward a National Guard member at Metro Center station and verbally insulted him. That same day, surveillance footage reportedly showed Baxter making the gesture again outside the DOJ’s “4CON” building and shouting profanities at guardsmen.

A week later, on August 25, Baxter allegedly repeated similar remarks to a DOJ security guard while entering the building. Witness statements and security video were reviewed as part of the investigation.

In a memorandum of removal delivered Friday evening, Bondi wrote that Baxter was “removed from your position of Paralegal Specialist, GS-0950-11, Environmental Defense Section, Environment and Natural Resources Division, and from the federal service, effective immediately,” citing “inappropriate conduct towards National Guard service members.” The letter also noted Baxter’s right to appeal through the Merit Systems Protection Board within 30 days.

Bondi confirmed the firing in a social media post, writing: “Today, I took action to terminate a DOJ employee for inappropriate conduct towards National Guard service members in DC. @TheJusticeDept remains committed to defending President Trump’s agenda and fighting to make America safe again. If you oppose our mission and disrespect law enforcement — you will NO LONGER work at DOJ.”

The dismissal comes shortly after the firing of another DOJ employee, Sean Charles Dunn, who was accused earlier this month of throwing a sandwich at a federal officer and shouting insults at law enforcement in Washington. Dunn, a paralegal in the DOJ’s Criminal Division, has since been charged with misdemeanor assault after a grand jury declined to indict him on felony counts.

Bondi previously described the cases as part of her effort to restore accountability at the Department of Justice. “This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ,” she said after Dunn’s removal.

The dismissals came as President Trump carried out a federal law-and-order initiative in Washington, DC. Earlier this month, Trump invoked section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to place the Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control, and he activated the National Guard.

Since then, Bondi has highlighted over 1,000 arrests and more than 100 illegal firearms seized, noting significant declines in violent crime across Washington. Trump and senior officials, including Bondi, have also made public appearances thanking law enforcement and the Guard for their role in the effort, including hosting a dinner of pizza and hamburgers for them earlier this month.

Hilarious: Newsom Makes Yet Another Announcement About Statewide Action, and It Can Only Mean One Thing

0
Townhall Media

As RedState previously reported, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has laughably attempted to take on the role of state crimefighter over the last couple of weeks, holding a press briefing on Thursday to announce a law enforcement “surge” for certain cities in the Golden State.

During the presser, Newsom failed to explain how, if crime was – per him – allegedly significantly down by double digits in the blue cities he was sending help to, why the extra surge of California Highway Patrol officers was needed.

Further, Newsom couldn’t provide a coherent answer when asked by a reporter if the governor initiating the law enforcement surge meant he believed crime was an issue in California after all, despite his previous claims that everything was under control amid the national debate initiated by President Trump about crime problems in blue cities.

READ MORE –>> The Trump Effect: Watch the Tables Get Hilariously Turned on Gavin Newsom During Law Enforcement Briefing

Hilariously, as Newsom has responded to Trump’s criticisms by first denying there was a problem and then switching gears and sending help, the prospective 2028 presidential candidate has made yet another announcement seemingly in response to another area of focus for Trump: homelessness:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Friday that he has created a new task force to dismantle homeless encampments in his state’s largest cities, citing public safety concerns.

“California has put in place a strong, comprehensive strategy for fighting the national homelessness and housing crises — and is outperforming the nation as a result in turning this issue around,” Newsom said in a statement. “No one should live in a dangerous or unsanitary encampment, and we will continue our ongoing work to ensure that everyone has a safe place to call home.”

With what does Newsom’s announcement just so happen to coincide? The homeless encampments that are being cleared in Washington, D.C., as a result of Trump federalizing law enforcement there earlier this month.

The Trump White House, in turn, has rightly accused him of being a copycat. I mean, that’s all any of this is at this point.

It’s interesting and yet so entirely predictable.  The only time Newsom takes action on the pressing crime and homelessness problems his state faces is when he’s either shamed into action nationally or when important dignitaries from other countries are coming.

“I know folks are saying, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming to town.’ That’s true because it’s true,” Newsom admitted in November 2023 as residents were raising questions on why San Francisco was being scrubbed clean of poop on the streets and the homeless were being hidden ahead of the APEC conference but not at any other time of the year.

And just as a reminder, Gavin Newsom has held public office in California since 1996. When he was elected mayor of San Francisco in 2003, he touted a 10-year plan to eradicate homelessness in SF. Once again, here’s a flashback to some of Newsom’s pledges over his decades in state government to solve the homeless crisis, juxtaposed alongside inadvertent admissions from Newsom himself that he’s been a total failure at it:

Yet the problems there and in other parts of the state still exist. It’s something Newsom is keenly aware of as he eyes a 2028 presidential run, making this argument on the issue back in May:

As a taxpayer, not just Governor. I’m not interested in funding failure anymore. I’m not. I won’t. Time to do your job. People are dying on their watch, dying on their watch. I don’t know — how do people get reelected? Look at these encampments. They’re a disgrace. They’ve been there years and years and years and years. I’ve heard that same rhetoric for years. People are dying. Kids are being born.

I think the best thing voters can do on this matter in 2028, assuming Newsom presses forth with a presidential campaign, is to take his words to heart and act accordingly: People who keep making promises about eradicating homelessness that they can’t and won’t keep do not deserve to be reelected, and especially not to higher office.
