Political Background of Judge in Trump Case Raises Major Red Flags

As of mid-day Tuesday, Donald Trump has been officially arrested and arraigned on 34 felony counts of fraud related to documents in the Stormy Daniels hush money saga. Scenes outside the courthouse grew tense as protesters and counter-protesters clashed. But it’s the judge who oversaw the entire proceeding that is now coming under fire, after parts of his political background were revealed.

According to Townhall, Justice Juan Manuel Merchan has a long history of giving money to Democrats, including Joe Biden. His anti-Trump animus is also coming into view after it was shown he donated to a group dedicated to “resisting” the former president.

Further, Merchan’s daughter once worked for Kamala Harris’ disastrous 2020 presidential campaign. She has since become a consultant who focuses on getting Democrat politicians elected.

According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, Merchan donated three times to ActBlue in the summer of 2020, once on July 26, 2020, when the judge’s donation was—according to the FEC—earmarked for President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign. The other two of Merchan’s contributions were pledged to the Progressive Turnout Project (PTP), a left-wing PAC that rallies voter turnout for Democrat candidates, and Stop Republicans, a PTP sub-project that’s dedicated to “resisting” Trump and the Republican Party.

Merchan’s adult daughter, Loren, previously worked for Kamala Harris’s failed 2020 presidential campaign and is now president of a consulting company that proudly lists the Biden-Harris campaign as its client, according to a report by Breitbart.

All that seems like a pretty big conflict of interest when dealing with the most politicized case in American history. The judge is clearly a far-left Democrat who doesn’t just give money to politicians but gives money to groups dedicated to stopping certain politicians. In this case, that politician is Donald Trump. How is this judge going to be unbiased in presiding over this case, when he is personally invested in seeing Trump never be allowed near the White House again? The obvious answer is that he won’t be, and that’s a big problem for the credibility of the legal system in New York.

Trump has already responded to this news by demanding a change of venue.

Trump might be brash, but he’s completely right in this instance. This trial has no business remaining in Manhattan, being overseen by a Democrat-loving judge in the midst of one of the most liberal parts of the country. How will they ever even pick a fair jury? The answer is that they can’t and won’t.

For further context, this also happens to be the same judge who oversaw the Trump organization case recently that sent Allen Weisselberg, a former Trump business associate, to prison. That case was also built on tenuous legal grounds, essentially taking down Weisselberg on a technicality in an attempt to get him to flip on Trump. If this goes to trial in the current venue, the former president is going to end up convicted no matter what the evidence says, and that would be a historically bad indictment of our justice system.
