Two female nurses were helping a patient to an ambulance in Gainesville, Georgia when they were stopped by a man with knives. Police were alerted to the threat by the man and told that he was talking about killing people. However, they still have not arrived. An armed veteran of the military nearby intervened quickly to ensure that the women didn’t get hurt in an unprofessional sidewalk surgery.

On Monday morning, the Gainesville Police Department received a call about abnormal behavior. It alerted them to a man living in the Shades Valley Lane area and Valley View Court, who was “possibly in a mental health crisis and armed with knives…running in the area, causing harm and threatening people.”

Witnesses said that the man had initially destroyed property with a boy, believed to be his son. He then called for help from others to kill him.

GPD Lt. Kevin Holbrook later identified the man as Darrion Suave Fraley, 34, who passed the nearby apartment building and moved into the neighboring neighborhood. Lt. Kevin Holbrook observed that Fraley’s behavior was “erratic” and that it “looked as if he kicked over (and) damaged some vehicles.”

Fraley met two female nurses who were loading a patient in an ambulance.

Fraley, who was still holding what one witness called steak knives, threatened medics and chased them down.

An armed neighbor intervened to save the lives of EMTs.

According to WSB-TV, a woman claiming to be his stepmother said that the neighbor was a veteran of the military and ran back inside to retrieve the weapon after the gentlemen began coming into the driveway.

Fraley, who allegedly returned to the scene with his gun, allegedly turned his attention away from the medics and attacked the veteran. Fraley opened fire and hit his attacker several times, prompting the veteran to respond.

John Morea, a local resident woke up to the sound of gunshots. He recalled that it was four shots. “Someone outside popped him, that was it.”

His stepmother said that the veteran did not intend to do what he had planned, but that if someone approaches him, it’s between them and him… his military training kicked into effect.” She said, “You do what is necessary to protect yourself and your family.”

Holbrook claims that Fraley was shot after he took the gun from the shooter and tried to use it to kill him. However, there were no bullets left in the gun.

Fraley was in critical condition when he was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Fraley was charged with attempted murder, obstruction of an EMT, and possession of firearms, as well as possessing a knife during the commission of a crime.

KVVU was later informed by Fraley’s family that Fraley had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. The incident was due to an imbalance in Fraley’s medication.

His mother said that Fraley was “talking about murdering people” in a 911 call.

The neighbor who was armed sustained minor injuries, but is not currently facing any charges.

Current debate surrounds the ability of Georgia’s law-abiding citizens to protect themselves everywhere, just as the veteran did in Gainesville.

If elected, Stacey Abrams would repeal Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s “Constitutional Carry”, which requires lawful weapons carriers in Georgia to hold a Georgia weapons license, restricts firearms carrying in parks, historic sites, or recreational areas, is a part of the law.

Abrams stated earlier in the year that he would work with everyone he could to repeal the senseless gun laws that were passed over the past decade.

Kemp, however, stated that law-abiding citizens should be able to carry a gun without any paper from the government. They have it in the United States Constitution with its Second Amendment.
