Watch: Ron DeSantis Lights up DA Alvin Bragg

Rumors have been swirling for several days now about the possibility of an indictment coming against former President Donald Trump as early as Tuesday.

Though Trump himself seemed to confirm the rumor in a Truth Social post Saturday where he also called for protests in order to “take our nation back,” the indictment may not be a done deal as one more witness – Michael Cohen’s legal advisor Robert Costello – reportedly still needs to testify, something that is likely to take place Monday according to news reports.

The “hush money” case Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is preparing to bring against Trump is about as flimsy and politically motivated as it gets, so much so that prominent Republicans are speaking out against it, including Trump’s VP Mike Pence, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy (no relation), with the latter calling it “a classic, invidious selective prosecution.”

On Monday morning, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was asked about the developing situation involving the possible indictment and arrest of Trump. He was also asked if he would have any involvement in a potential extradition of Trump.

In his response, DeSantis did not hold back, ripping into Bragg and what DeSantis also called politically motivated while noting that there were ordinary citizens all across the country who were being victimized every day by “Soros-funded” attorneys like Bragg who are abusing the offices they hold for partisan, “woke” reasons:

“I’ve seen rumors swirl. I have not seen any facts yet, and so I don’t know what’s going to happen,” said DeSantis, a likely 2024 Republican presidential hopeful. “But I do know this: The Manhattan district attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor and so he, like other Soros-funded prosecutors, they weaponize their office to impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.”

[…]

“But what I can speak to is if you have a prosecutor, who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago to try to use something about porn star hush money payments, that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office,” he said.

DeSantis also boasted about being the only governor in the country to remove a Soros-funded district attorney from office.

Watch:

Readers will note DeSantis took a sly dig at Trump in the process when he said “I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair, I just, I can’t speak to that,” but considering how Trump has made some pretty nasty allegations against DeSantis’ personal life, I’d say the inclusion of the comment was justified.

In any event, after being accused of “deliberate silence” by the MAGA faithful over the weekend, DeSantis has said his piece about the matter. It won’t quiet his staunchest critics, of course, but I suspect that wasn’t DeSantis’ intention anyway.
