Following the news, on Thursday evening, of former President Donald Trump’s indictment related to alleged mishandling of classified documents, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) issued a statement on Twitter condemning the move in no uncertain terms.

Said McCarthy:

Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America.

It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades.

I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice. House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable.

Other elected Republicans and well-known conservatives sounded off on the news as well.

DeSantis, More Republicans Respond to Trump Indictment

There were also a slew of Republican presidential primary candidates for 2024 speaking out, most notably, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who noted the stark difference in treatment under the law of Trump vs. Hillary Clinton and Hunter Biden by the Justice Department:

The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society.

We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation.

Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?

The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all.

But one notable, prominent Republican voice hasn’t been heard from since the news broke: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Certainly, there is no love lost between the former president and the minority leader, but one might expect at least an acknowledgment of this unprecedented circumstance. Yet, just as he did following the indictment secured by Alvin Bragg in New York, McConnell has remained conspicuously quiet on the matter.

In fact, the entire Senate Republican leadership team has remained mum on the matter.

But Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., and other members of the Senate Republican leadership team remained noticeably silent.

Presumably, as the matter progresses, McConnell will eventually weigh in on it, but in the meantime, his silence is deafening.

  1. Donald J Trump needs to dump the Republican Party (period). Why he endures the bull and RINO actions are beyond me and I am sure millions of his other supporters. Simply put, he does not need them because his base will stay with him regardless and an Independent President would put a smile on a lot of faces.

  2. His silence is not deafening it is conspicuously absent. The reason is simple the old son of a bitch is and has been bought and paid for by the damn chinamen for years. Not only that he is as crooked as old stupid joe. PLUS, he knows when The Donald returns to his stolen position as President, the Turtle’s name will be prominently featured on Epstein’s little black book and a number of entries will be seen. Oh yeah BUCK joe fiden!!!

  3. Yeah, old man McConnell is still worrying about how all of this is going to affect HIM…he’s nothing more than a RHINO thug doing the Democrat’s work for them, and I have no doubt he is in bed with the Chinese as well!! He is just one of many in a Congress FULL of liars, hypocrites and criminals and they deserve nothing but utter contempt from the rest of us!!

  4. McConnell is a hard core dimwit nitwit who has truly shown which side he belongs on. I have not liked this man since we gave the GOP the senate and he traded on his position at every opportunity for himself, his chinese wifeypoo and her family who is big in China and at every opportunity to destroy MAGA! Not a man of the people but definitely for those special interests who he helps. Apparently they love him, WE the little people who do still try to vote and count DON’T!!

  5. McConnell like Romney are both Leftists who have perpetrated the Republican Party in order to fracture it and make it less effective. These two should have been kicked out a long time ago.
