After joking about creating the coronavirus in his kitchen, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was attacked by conservatives via social media.

Fauci received an award Tuesday from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center campus, Seattle, Washington. Dr. Larry Corey stated that WA1 – Washington 1 was considered the epicenter for the initial outbreak.

Fauci laughed and replied, “No, I created the ancestral model strain.” It was my creation.

Corey laughed and replied, “That’s right, you let that loose,”

“I was in my Kitchen, and I …” Fauci stated, presuming that he had dropped an imaginary object on the Floor.

“Gain of-function, there you go,” Corey joked before referring to Fauci’s Italian meatballs that he made in his kitchen when he created the virus.

The audience was able to laugh with the doctors. However, the reactions of conservatives on social media weren’t as lighthearted.

Benjamin Weingarten, author and journalist, tweeted: “Despicable. He mocks and trots while being the one arguably most responsible to promoting policies that have caused millions of lives to be damaged and helped perhaps irrevocably crippled our republican system.”

Tyler Carditis (CEO of Blaze Media) posted “Fauci makes joke about creating SARS/CoV-2.” It’s funny, because it’s impossible. He isn’t that smart. He’s arrogant and naive enough approve & finance the research & scientists who likely did. And he’s slimy enough try to hide it all.”

“Extremely poor taste joke by Tyrant Fauci,” Young Americans for Liberty tweeted. “He’s not only a terrible doctor but he’s also tone deaf!”

Conservatives have made Fauci a target during the coronavirus era due to his support for stringent coronavirus restrictions as well as controversy over “gain-of function” research funding from the National Institutes of Health. This funding went to Wuhan, China where many believe that the coronavirus originated.

Fauci insists that the virus originated naturally, while prominent Republicans, such as Republican politicians, lean toward the idea that it escaped from the Wuhan laboratory.

Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican Senator, said last month that Fauci will be forced to testify under oath regarding the virus’ origins and any possible cover-up if Republicans win control of Congress in fall.
