Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, began a week of stumbles by giving an interview under a White House graphic in New Orleans that had “Louisiana” misspelled.
Harris was visiting Louisiana to attend Essence Fest. This music festival and political event focuses on social issues affecting Black women. Harris gave a 30-minute interview during the event. Social media ridiculed her for standing under a sign spelling Louisiana wrong under the vice presidential seal.
Kamala Harris is the Vice President. New Orleans Lousiana” the sign said, ignoring the fact that the letter “i”, appears twice in the state name.
The typo was not addressed by Harris or the interviewer during Harris’ talk.
Social media users quickly harped on the misspelling.
One Twitter user wrote, “It’s the perfect metaphor for her whole administration.”
Harris and Keke Palmer, Harris’ interviewer, discussed racial issues and the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Harris condemned the decision and claimed it was part of America’s history as claiming “ownership” over human bodies.
Harris stated, “We must recognize that we are a nation founded on certain principles that were — that are grounded the concept of liberty and freedom.” “We also know we have a history of trying to take ownership over human bodies in this country of governments,” Harris said.
