According to a Secret Service official, Mike Pence, former Vice President, and his security team feared for their safety during the Capitol riots of last year. This was according to an eighth Jan. 6 hearing. The Jan. 6 Committee presented recordings of an interview with a White House security officer and his testimony about the riots.

Interviewers were told by an unnamed official that Pence’s security personnel were using their phones and radio to make personal calls in fear of their lives during the riots at the Capitol Building. Because they were “disturbing”, the official stated that he didn’t want to discuss the calls with his family.

The recordings show that the voice of the anonymous security officer was altered to preserve his identity.

The Jan. 6 Select Committee’s last hearing of the summer saw the panel attempt to give a minute-by-60 account of former President Trump’s actions during the Capitol Hill Riot. It claimed that Trump deliberately refused to act, despite being warned by his aides to condemn the violence.

The majority of the evidence presented by the committee was previously reported on, or presented, but not on primetime television.

The hearing heard testimony from Trump aides, who claimed that they asked the president to condemn the riot harder as it was occurring.
