Top Georgia Democrat Snubs Stacey Abrams, Endorses Republican Brian Kemp

Georgia’s top Democrat has decided to support incumbent Republican Gov. Burt Jones over Stacey Abrams as his nominee for gubernatorial office. Brian Kemp and Burt Jones, the Republican candidate to be lieutenant governor.Kwanza Hall was the former Democratic candidate to be lieutenant governor, but lost to Charlie Bailey in a runoff. He announced his candidacy on Friday. He cited Kemp’s ability “to make tough decisions” in “unprecedented situations,” and Jones’ plans for reducing crime and improving the state’s education system.

Hall stated that while we may not agree on all issues, it is clear that Brian Kemp has the character and leadership skills to make Georgians feel safe and secure in their future.

Hall was also a former member of Atlanta’s City Council and briefly served as a U.S. House of Representatives member for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District after the death of John Lewis, a Democratic Rep. who represented the seat.

Recent polls show Jones and Kemp leading their respective races in the lead.

Fox News Digital reached out for comment to both the Kemp and Abrams campaign, but received no response from either of them. The former shared a statement that he had released Friday morning after the endorsement.

Kemp stated that he greatly appreciated Congressman Hall’s support for the campaign. “Kwanza has been a great servant to our capital and state over many years. I look forward working with him and the other hardworking Georgians in order to put political differences aside to make our state the best place for work, live, and raise families for the next four-years.”

Fox News’ Power Rankings rated Abrams’ race against Kemp “lean Republican.”

Tuesday will see the election of both candidates.
